“Epaceship Sarth” is a sci-fi portrait montage film that captures the life of a couple during the isolation period of the COVID-19 pandemic in Vancouver, BC. Stuck at home and watching too much Star Trek, the couple’s daily routine begins to blend with a sci-fi imaginarium that challenges the idea of work, memory, and fantasy.

Shot with both digital and analog media (VHS), the images alternate between subjective and objective points of view. Blending home videos, found footage, and footage from other projects (WNSB News), viewers are taken on a personal journey through the characters’ (and filmmaker’s) past, present, and possibly future, experiences.

The spaceship displayed in this film was built by Tony Charrette for the first iteration of Studio Spaced (2019-).

The filmmaker’s favorite part of the film is when the male character (Santiago Henderson) barges into the room and abruptly wakes up the female character (Bonnie Gaskin) who, without missing a beat, says “Can’t you see I’m at work?!”
